The PAES Scan App turns paper scoring into a few seconds on a device. Students scan a QR code, supervisors score what they see, and the data flows straight into the assessment record. No retyping. No lost forms. No data-entry evenings.
What it does
The Scan App handles the admin so supervisors can focus on the students.
- Students scan in with a personal QR code (first name or alias only. No personal data leaves the device).
- Supervisors score each task on the standard PAES criteria, right there in the lab.
- Data syncs to the student record.
- Reports pull from the synced data at the end of the cycle.
Built for classrooms, not data scientists
The app runs on the devices teachers already have. iPad, iPhone, Android tablet, Chromebook. No procurement. No IT ticket. Open the app, pick a student, score the task.
Supervisors tell us the app cuts admin time in half. That's half a day a week returned to the students.
Privacy by design
Many schools and districts have strict data protection requirements. The Scan App is built for them.
- Students are identified by a QR code and a first name or alias. Nothing more.
- No personally identifiable information is collected or stored in the app.
- All data syncs are encrypted.
- Districts can operate the app in local-only mode where policy requires it.

Works offline
Labs don't always have reliable wifi. The Scan App scores offline and syncs when a connection returns. Nothing is lost.
What's next
We are exploring voice-first and accessibility-first modes of the Scan App, including full voice interaction for supervisors and students with low vision. In scope for the next product cycle.
